This study attempted to identify the role of the "caregiver" in the support network of the very old. Of family caregivers ofpersons over 100 years old, 74 responded to a survey regarding needs and abilities of centenarians, support the caregiver provided, and the caregiver's perceptions of the problems and rewards of care- giving. There was a broad range in the manner in which the caregiver role was performed.
